A spectacular geologic outcrop at the western Yasur caldera rim exposes a 3-4 meter thick, solid red deposit which in fact probably is a deposit from a spatter-rich pyroclastic flow, welded so well together that it appears like a lava flow. A fine-grained base layer and loose or poorly welded spatter at the top can be seen as well.
